A motorcyclist was left “shocked” after he was caught with MDMA and cannabis in his system while he was driving.
Harley Hinton was pulled over by police officers while he was driving his Honda motorcycle along Maybray King Way, in Bitterne, Southampton.
The 22-year-old took a test and along with high levels of cannabis in his blood, Hinton also had an illegal amount of the party drug MDMA.
Prosecutor Richard Withey told Southampton Magistrates’ Court that Hinton “was shocked at the presence of the drug in his body”.
He added Hinton had no previous convictions.
Jane Joslin, mitigating, said Hinton had hoped to gain an apprenticeship in carpentry but due to the ongoing case he was unable to join the course.
Hinton pleaded guilty to driving while over the drug limit and using a motor vehicle without insurance.
In sentencing, District Judge Lorraine Morgan said: “Driving this vehicle with an illegal level of substances in your system made you not only a danger to yourself but to other road users when in such a condition.”
Hinton, of Acacia Road, Southampton, was disqualified from driving for 20 months. He was fined £300 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
