THESE are the faces of four members of a smuggling ring, who trafficked drugs into a Hampshire prison.

The gang include Ben Carr, who was jailed for life in 2015 following the murder of Pennie Davis in the New Forest.

Carr was part of the smuggling ring, who trafficked drugs and mobile phones into Winchester Prison.

Hampshire Constabulary's serious and organised crime unit launched a probe into suspected smuggling at the prison, starting early in 2015.

The investigating discovered that Carr, 25, Rhonda Pack, 21, Christopher Byles, 28, Danielle Carr, 30, Rebecca Vaughan, 24, Sophie Lennards, 30, Connie Rooke, 26, and Surita Panthiva, 28, were found to be smuggling items into the jail.

Stephanie Robert-Bibby, governor of Winchester Prison, said: "A cause such as this brings to light the hard work of prison staff and police officers to uncover the full extent of criminal conspiracies attempting to smuggle contraband items into and out of prison premises.

"This result sends a clear message that such activity will be brought to light and punished.

"I'd like to thank my staff and the investigating officers for building a clear picture of the activities that prisoners and members of the public were undertaking for a short period at HMP Winchester."

Pack and Byles pleaded guilty to conspiracy to smuggle mobile phones and class A drugs into prison.

They were jailed for eight months each during a hearing at Southampton Crown Court this week.

The other members were sentenced on 14 September, at the same court, after previously entering guilty pleas to charges brought as part of the investigation

Danielle Carr, of Hawkhill in Dibden, admitted conspiracy to smuggle drugs into prison.

She had previously admitted conspiracy to convey mobile telephones into prison, and entering into an arrangement to facilitate the acquisition of criminal property.

She was sentenced to a total of twelve months in prison for all three offences.

Vaughan, of Primrose Close in Chandlers Ford, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to smuggling mobile telephones into prison, entering into an arrangement to facilitate the acquisition of criminal property, and possession of criminal property, and was sentenced to eight months in prison.

Lennards, of Faircross Close in Holbury pleaded guilty to conspiracy to smuggle mobile telephones into prison and conspiracy to smuggle drugs into prison. She was jailed for 15 months.

Rooke, of Park Mews, Park Gate, pleaded guilty to entering into an arrangement to facilitate the acquisition of criminal property. She was sentenced to four months in prison suspended for two years.

Ben Carr, of HMP Winchester, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to smuggle mobile telephones into prison and conspiracy to smuggle drugs in prison. He was jailed for three years.

Suritai Phanthiva, of HMP Winchester, pleaded guilty to smuggling drugs into prison and was jailed for three years.He had previously admitted conspiracy to convey mobile telephones into prison and was sentenced to 16 months in prison at a previous hearing for that offence.
