THE hunt is on for hit-and-run driver who mounted a pavement and struck a teenage pedestrian from behind.

Police say the driver hit and injured the unsuspecting 19-year-old as he walked along Highfield Lane last night.

The pedestrian, who suffered injuries to his head and back, was hit by what is being described as a small silver hatchback.

The driver then fled the scene following the incident, which took place shortly after 10pm.

Police are now hunting the driver and are asking any witnesses to come forward.

PC Adam Buckland said: “We are trying to establish the identity of the vehicle and driver involved in this collision.

“This is a busy part of the city, and there were a number of people in the area at this time.

“Did you see this incident take place, or did you see a damaged vehicle matching this description in the area around this time?

“We are determined to identify the vehicle as quickly as possible so we can establish the exact circumstances.

“Were you the driver, or do you know the driver? Please get in touch.”
