A BUSINESS owner was reduced to tears after thieves raided her family play cafe.

Laura Fielder-Smith was shocked to find Block Party Café on West End Road had been broken into, with hundreds of pounds stolen.

The business, which offers families and groups the chance to play, build and create together, is affectionately known as the “Lego cafe” as it has a huge supply of Lego and Duplo.

The tearful 36-year-old, who employs seven members of staff, was forced to shut yesterday in the aftermath of the raid.

About £500 was stolen from the tills.

Ms Fielder-Smith said: “I’m absolutely gutted.

“That’s somebody’s wages, that’s a member of staff that I’m going to struggle to find the money to pay this month.”

She added: “My business is not part of a franchise.

“It is a family business and I have everything on the line.”

The community is now rallying round Ms Fielder-Smith.

Donations have flooded in on an online funding page, set up by a customer, which quickly exceeded its target of £500.
