HAMPSHIRE cricketer Reece Topley has been banned from driving after he was again caught using a mobile phone at the wheel.

Topley, 24, was spotted driving on West End Road near the Ageas Bowl in a 16-reg Jaguar on September 28 last year.

Magistrates in Aldershot were told that Topley had admitted the offence and that a six-month disqualification was obligatory because it was a repeat offence.

Topley, of Straight Road, Colchester, was fined £660 with a £66 victim surcharge and ordered to pay an £85 victim surcharge.

The six feet seven inches tall left-arm fast bowler signed from Essex two years ago but his Hampshire career has been beset by four serious injuries, to his hand, shoulder and back.

He made his latest comeback at the weekend in a one-day match at Sussex.and played on Monday against Surrey.

Topley has 16 one-day international appearances for England, making his debut against Australia in 2015. His last cap was against South Africa in February 2016.

Injury has hampered his whole career and he has only played 34 first class matches taking 127 wickets at an average of 26.77 and with best figures of 6-29.

The ESPNcricinfo.com website said: "Talented but distressingly injury prone, Reece Topley's England career - indeed, his Hampshire career as well - has been severely disrupted by injury, inviting questions at 23 as to whether this beanpole left-armer can survive the rigours of regular cricket or if he is heading sooner than he might wish to a future limited to the 20-over game."
