POLICE investigating reports of gun shots in a Southampton street have raided ‘a number of properties’ in the hunt for the shooter.

But Hampshire Constabulary would not say where the raids took place, or whether the weapon used to fire the shots had been taken off the streets.

It comes after a high speed chase was sparked when gun shots were fired in Walnut Avenue, in Swaythling.

Police say the occupants of a blue Ford Focus opened fire on the windscreen of a silver Vauxhall Astra.

The cars then entered into a high speed chase down a busy Southampton road, overtaking several vehicles in the process.

Police say the incident began just before 8pm on Wednesday, June 13.

Starting in Walnut Avenue, the chase moved onto Wide Lane and then along the A27 towards Church Hill, where both cars overtook six vehicles.

Police say there were several people in both cars, but no-one was reported as injured.

Since the incident, Hampshire Constabulary says its officers have executed warrants on a ‘number of properties’.

Police confirmed no arrests were made.
