ARMED officers and a police helicopter engaged in a high-speed chase after a 'ram-raid' at a Hampshire supermarket.

Three men carried out the raid at Tesco in Pilgrims Close, Chandler's Ford, at 3.11am this morning.

It is understood the trio targeted a cash machine, as well as forcing open the store's shutters and stealing tills.

Armed officers raced to the scene, along with police helicopter, NPAS Bournemouth, who engaged in a car chase.

The trio then left the vehicle, sparking a chase on foot.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed three men, aged 25, 26 and 44, all from Southampton have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 3.11am to a report of a burglary at Tesco in Pilgrims Close, Chandlers Ford.

"The front door shutters were forced open and tills removed.

"A 25-year-old man from no fixed address in Southampton, a 26-year-old man from Southampton and a 44-year-old man from Southampton have all been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
