A JUDGE has ordered a man to be detained in a psychiatric hospital after he claimed to be God.
Christopher Morgan, 63, appeared at Southampton Crown Court facing charges of possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply.
Morgan had previously refused to accept legal proceedings, saying it was blasphemous to have God in court, and told a judge that under the 1558 Act of Surpemacy he had no jurisdiction because he was God.
Jurors heard two psychiatrists had examined Morgan and found he was unfit to plead.
Their role was not to find him guilty or not guilty of the allegations but to determine whether he committed the act alleged against him – that he was in possession of the drugs.
After half an hour’s deliberation, they concluded he was.
Judge Tom Longbotham ordered Morgan to be detained in the psychiatric wing of the Royal South Hants Hospital, Southampton.
Morgan was arrested after police stopped a car in which he was a passenger. After he got out of the vehicle, he was seen to discard items on the ground.
Officers later found the drugs and £500 in cash in his one-bedroom flat in Roselands Gardens, Highfield.
