Body of a man found by dog walker in a Coxford stream

Body found in Southampton stream Body found in Southampton stream

THIS morning police officers were standing guard at the scene where the grim discovery of a man's body was made.

The body was found lying in a stream by a dog walker in woodland in the Coxford area of Southampton last night.

Detectives were called to the scene at the popular cut through that leads from Springford Road Allotments to the back of Coxford Road following the gruesome discovery early yesterday evening.

Police said it is not yet clear whether the death is suspicious and are awaiting the results of a post mortem that is being carried out later today.

It is understood the body had been there for some time.

For a video of the top stories in today's Daily Echo, click the front page.

This morning around half a dozen uniformed officers were manning a cordon around the area where the body was discovered. A boardwalk running along the stream was sealed off.

The picturesque walkway is popular with dog walkers and just 100 metres from a children's play area.

Police investigating the discovery said they hoped to release more information following the post mortem examination.

Detective Chief Inspector , said: " If anyone can help with our inquiries I would urge them to contact us."

Coxford ward councillor Don Thomas said: "I’m a regular walker down through there. It’s a tragedy that something like this is found on our doorsteps.

"If anybody has got any information they should contact the police without delay to help them get to the bottom of this."

If anyone has any information relating to the incident they should call the Operation Savannah Investigation Team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

I appreciate that Mr Wang Nai Cheung Road, but that doesn't usually apply to adults unless there is a medical condition that needs to be taken into account.

Not really a suprise the estate of shirley warren/coxford is brought up on drugs and hate. Even if this turns out to be a "suspicous" police are scared to go on to the estate and always have been,In this case its more then likely to be a fight or attack gone wrong considering the "stream" is where all the local hooligans stand and cause unesscary nuisance. Deepest thoughts going out to the mans family R.I.P, As for the police southampton is full of nuisance teenagers start putting the real criminals down instead of ones who nick a 79p packet of jaffa cakes !!!!!!

well not very subtle was it, give you some thing to think about. maybe this guy trip knock himself out rolled down the embankment and landed in the stream face down.
and the stream being at lest 6 inches deep is more than enough to drown in if face down.

I honestly cannot believe how sad you people are. Everyday its the same people on here making snide comments. A man has died, it doesnt matter where it happened or how it happened all you ever care about is the area it happened in. Nowhere is safe whether it is Coxford/Shirley Warren or some little village like Rothbury.

We dont even know how he died yet and still you are on making your snide little remarks and guesses on what happened. You need to remember that this man was someones son, maybe even a brother, father or such like and start having a bit of respect for others.

I lost a close friend at christmas and you all did exactly the same thing.

Families come on here looking for any little bit of info that may point to there missing loved ones and dont need to see your hurtful, pointless comments.

Who are you people commenting on this subject and the area it happened in. I live in a house which backs on to the woods where this happened and cannot believe some of the small minded idiots who are putting down shirley warren and coxford. I have 2 children who play round the park in front of these woods and can honestly say ive never lived in a better area. My children go to the school up the road and it is one of the best infant/primary schools in southampton. The people here arent all druggies and hoodies all in all its a excellent community and wouldnt choose to raise my children in any other area. How can u comment if u dont live here. Every where has its fair share of trouble and coxford isnt an exception but compared to some areas of southampton it is now where near as bad. Dont stereotype my area just because you have heard rumours, ive lived here for 10 years and i love it!!

i hope that if this is a murder the police catch the person/people that did this, as he was someboby's son, father, brother.
I lived in Jesmine Road Shirley Warren for 4 years and could not wait to get out, but then moved to Millbronx (Millbrook) and had the same trouble with kids there, my daughter was put in hospital with a suspected fractured skull just because she would not join a gang. and my other children were to scared to go out alone.
what is this country coming to.
Why are the police to scared to go to these areas?

LOL,
No it didnt!
Why?
Because crime doesnt happen on a daily basis up here in Cumbria!
Because on the whole (with one or two exceptions) a copper can go into a village and have a cuppa with the locals and come out knowing his car wont be on its roof!
Shilrey Warren/Coxford (the name they give to the same area when they dont want people to know they are in the warren/ estate agents dont want people to realise what a scummy hovell it is) has rapidly declined over the last 20 years as good familys move out, and ASBO families move into a place where no one else wants to go.

I have lived in Millbrook for 33 years and have never had a problem. It is people who keep making stupid comments like that that give an area a bad name. It doesnt matter where you go you will always find bad aswell as good.

Anyway why does everyone go off the subject? This story is about a man who has tragically lost his life, if you dont have anything nice to say then why bother at all?

I know i ended that last sentence with a question mark, but please dont use it as an invitation to carry on with the pathetic comments. Just spare a thought for the poor mans family. It doesnt matter what walk of life he came from and whether he was 17 or 77 or how he came to be found there, someone somewhere is going to be devastated.

We have p.c.s.o's walking our streets every day of the week and things like this are just as rare as the derrick bird shootings. I would also welcome a "copper" as put it in my home for a "cuppa" any day of the week as would most of my neghbours. This is just as good an area to live in as any other. Do u have any statstics to prove shirley warren has gone down hill. I live here and i know that its improved if anything. Whats wrong with you has jeremy kyle finished?? Need that extra little bit of drama up there in youre boring little villiage?? How do you know police wont come into the area....ive just had a litte chat with a very polite police man....who also thinks you have small minded views. A little off topic....but in terms of areas, different people have different views and expectations on and of their environment.
For some there could be no worse place to live in than Millbrook, others love it, the exact same thing can be said about most council estates.
For as long as I can remember Shirley Warren has always been labelled as an undesirable place to live, by the majority of residents in most other council estates in the City. Must be some reasoning behind it!

First of all, Shirley Warren is a very different area to Coxford. Shirley Warren is the are near the hospital and has Warren avenue running up the middle of it. Coxford is next door and is the area around Outer Circle and had Aldermoor Avenue running up the middle of it.
Secondly, over the past months I’ve read lots of stories about bugularies and worse happening in the Highfield area – a supposedly nice part of Southampton. One poor man is found dead and suddenly Shirley Warren/Coxford is labelled a ghetto.

Finally, please keep up the mis-informed, childish snobbery – it’s meant that I’ve been able to buy a decent two bed house at a bargain price is a leafy, quiet area. Much better than living in the middle of Southampton or in Ocean Village. Have had no problems whatsoever – the same could be said when I leaved in Shirley or Ocean Village.

I can’t Speak for Shirley Warren, but Coxford is a safe and quite place to live. If we do have drug dealers and gangs, they certainly keep to themselves. You lack of information and sensible comments is truly astounding and very disappointing. Most of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Omg ark at you all!! How dare anybody presume how this man died and rant at each other over it! A man is dead! Does it matter where he died and what he has died of? In my opinion nobody has the right to make assumptions like this about something nobody knows the facts about!! And as for everybody saying it's not suprising because if the area that's just rubbish I have lived in Shirley Warren for thirty years my parents for over fifty! We have never had any trouble! Tuna man when was the last time you walked through Shirley Warren? By the sounds of it a very long time ago? You say the police are scared to come to the area? That's a laugh we have pcso's walking through everyday, everyday I hear on the news about stabbings and burglaries and there never storys from Shirley Warren! It's got nothing to do with the area, oh and tuna man I don't drink I certainly don't do drugs I work very hard and I live in Shirley Warren so not everybody that lives in the area are yobs!

St.Dave, I'm glad to see that there are a few people on this comments board ( like yourself )that have the intelligence to wait for the police finding's and report before running down area's of this city.
Which is why it amazes me that the Echo let you comment on these stories. It also amazes me that they dont let you comment on less sensitive issues as this!

You have a cheek ranting about trouble makers and yobs yet reading through these comments your quite clearly a little trouble maker yourself!! you also clearly haven't a clue what your talking about? No doubt you will comment again though? Looks to me like you like a good argument?!!

Not being rude or anything, but not all teenagers are trouble makers in shirley warren, i mean i have loads of friends down there myself and none of them a trouble makers or anything. i think the stereotypical views of us teenagers are out of place, nobody wants to give teenagers a chance and if they did they would know that most of us are much more considerate than others.
Its horrible at what has happened to that poor man, but nobody will know what really happened until the forensics have figured it out. R.I.P

I have lived in Coxford/Shirley Warren for 23 years, I have never known the police to be afraid of coming to the area, that is a rediculous statement to make. There are good & bad people in every area, whether it be Coxford, Aldermoor, Shirley Warren, Millbrook, Romsey, Chilworth etc. As for saying that the rest of them are getting their benefits, what if they are!! some are genuine cases of people that cant find work, or are disabled, that does not make them a chav! or a bad person. You really should think carefully before you write things like that, as you never know what is around the corner for you or your'e family, no-one knows how their own children will grow up, or any member of their family. Someone has lost their life, so why the hell does it matter in which area, this sort of thing can happen anywhere, for all you know (these people who think our area is rough) if this is a murder, what's to say the person who did it doesn't come from where you live!! People from the Warren that didn't even know of me, helped out when my son had his bike stolen (from a different area) they made a collection to replace it, can you say that would happen from your'e neighbourhood? Thoughts are with the deceased's family.

It does not matter where you live,in rags or riches....The point is a young man has lost his life, and yes i say a YOUNG MAN. It seems his own family do not as yet even know if that is there son..But whatever area they come from the family do not deserve this heart ache. Please also keep in mind Terry the poor guy who found him with his dog, spare a thought for what he must feel.I know the area well and walk my dog often over that very spot. These kind of terrible things affect all kinds of people young and old all over the world, where you live is besides the point..Im sure soon we will find out the deceased boys name and maybe you will know him or his family your self!!!!

Can I just say, some of your comments are almost sickening. This guy was not a drug addict, a drunkard, a local hooligan who was involved in a fight or a "coxford local brought up on hate" (He was not raised in coxford, just incase you're wondering...) he was a relative of mine, and reading some of these comments I've found INCREDIBLY disrespectful and distressing. No-one that knew him is taking it particularly well. It wasn't a nice thing to be sat down and told - but the ignorance of some of you is making this a whole lot worse. I don't care about what sort of people come from the area he was found in, wherever it happened he didn't deserve it. Just think about how painful this is before you comment in future please, for some it's just another news story, but for others it's the real thing and it hurts a lot more. (Oh, and yes, families DO read these things...)

I am sure we have all read stories such as this, seen them on the news and heard them on the radio. We must have all wondered at some time what it must be like to receive news like this and what the families must be going through. AJT is my daughter and I had to tell her and her mum, who is the cousin of this man,s mother, the news. To say they are devistated is an understatement. There are some things in life I wish I would never have to experience, I now know what it is like. Apart from telling my wife her mum had died this is the worst thing I have had to do. I knew him and he was a really nice lad who go on well with both my daughters, my wife thought the world of him. He was not perfect, but who is, but he was a decent lad with a heart of gold.
I do not know why people have to comment without knowing him, knowing the facts and without considering the consequences of their comments and the effect it will have on the families. All I can say is I would not wish it on anyone, including those who have made these hurtful comments.
People should think before they comment. Once your comment has been made for you it is over and you have had your moment of fame, for the family it is just beginning and there will be a lot more heartache and sorrow before this is over.
Sapper could I ask you to contact your ex and ask her for our contact number, we are in Norfolk so she should know who you mean.
When the police report is revealed there will be a lot of humble pie being eaten in and around Southampton.
As a foot note I was born in Southampton and I am ashamed at the comments some of you have made.

My beautiful son, my only child is dead. His father and I gave him life. We, along with all of his relatives and friends love him and cherish his being a part of our lives for such a short time. Someone has taken away our right to talk, laugh, cry and be with him. We cannot comfort him, make him well again, hold his hand or kiss him goodbye. He will never have the chance to fulfil his heartfelt wish to be a husband and father. He will never know the joys and sorrows of parenthood, nor, thankfully, suffer the pain of losing his own child.
