12:00pm Thursday 22nd July 2010 in Crime
By Julian Robinson, Eastleigh Chief Reporter
THE mystery over the decomposing body found in a Southampton stream deepened last night.
Dog walker Terry Clarke made the grim discovery while walking his Staffordshire bull terrier Kea in woodland close to the city’s Princess Anne maternity hospital.
But last night police were still trying to answer vital questions about the discovery.
The body is so decomposed that it has hampered the police investigation into finding out who the man is, or how he died.
A post-mortem yesterday also proved inconclusive.
Last night Mr Clarke described the moment he spotted the arm of the man in just inches of water, 200 metres from a children’s play area and the busy Coxford Road.
The 55-year-old said: “I could smell something. I thought it might have been a dead deer or something, so I went looking.
“It is very shallow. He was tucked in under a bank with his legs and arms out towards the centre of the stream.
“He was wearing a blue top, blue jeans and black trainers, but the body was not in good shape.”
Mr Clarke called police and met them at the nearby Coxford Road Allotments before taking them to the scene, 20ft from a footbridge.

Tuna man there is something fishy about u to b honest!! The police are not afraid of this area, & y try to b smart saying the f.a.m.o.u.s. dog walker, this man found a rather horrific site, & incase you are not intelligent to know or understand, the body was hidden so the police would have needed the man to show them where to find the body was. Have a bit of compassion please you stupid man.
