SOUTHAMPTON had the highest number of drink-drive arrests across the county in one month.

During the first month of Hampshire Constabulary’s summer drink-drive campaign in June, police made 36 arrests in the city.

There have been 186 people arrested so far as part of Op Solar – the same as last year, despite police taking fewer breath tests.

In Winchester there were 19 arrests, while the Isle of Wight had 18, Fareham 12, 18 in Eastleigh and Romsey and ten in the New Forest.

Drink-drivers can face a 12-month ban, up to £5,000 in fines, a criminal record and up to six years in prison.
