SOUTHAMPTON had the highest number of drink-drive arrests across the county in one month.

During the first month of Hampshire Constabulary’s summer drink-drive campaign in June, police made 36 arrests in the city.

There have been 186 people arrested so far as part of Op Solar – the same as last year, despite police taking fewer breath tests.

In Winchester there were 19 arrests, while the Isle of Wight had 18, Fareham 12, 18 in Eastleigh and Romsey and ten in the New Forest.

Drink-drivers can face a 12-month ban, up to £5,000 in fines, a criminal record and up to six years in prison.

The magic word here is "can".

Enforce the maximum.

If this does not sink in with these idiots, increase all of them by 100% and lets see if they get it then.

It won't sink in. Nobody thinks "I an afford a 12 month ban and a £5000 fine", they all think "I won't get caught". The reason for the 'can' is, there isn't just not-over-the-limit and over-the-limit. It's unfair to punish someone who's only just over the limit, to the same degree as someone who's had 18 pints and a bottle of vodka.

Dissagree Georgem. As soon as you take a sip of alcohl and get behind the wheel it doesn't matter how much you've had. It's exactly the attitude you have which is the problem. Take responsibility and either don't drink or leave the car at home. It's really not that difficult surely?

Of course it matters. The law disagrees, too. Well, I suppose, once I've had a half a shandy, there's no point me stopping there. I may as well get a bottle of whiskey down me, too. After all, it's just the same, right?

Know nothing about? Very presumptuous! My point was if you're going to have even a sip then you have to take the consequences. The legal drink drive limit depends on a number of factors including gender, body mass and how quickly your body absorbs alcohol into the blood stream. A sip, although unlikely, could be enough for some to be over the limit. Say you got stopped and had 90 milligrams of alcohol in your blood. That's over the limit. But what if you had 100 or 150? is that worse or the same? When do you judge it to be more serious.

And another thing to think about is, even low its all ways happened drink and driving.
Could any of these people be doing that because they have got to travel and public transport is not running in there area where they live.
just curious to know and nothing more.
It sounds like you are creating an excuse for drink drivers regarding a lack of public transport just for bait.

How do you get 'even low' with 'even though' confused..? I'll have whatever you're drinking.
No good you answering because your not bright enough to know about these things, it takes some body who have carried on learning things after leaving school. And not get stuck in old out of date knowledge.
Instead of telling everyone they know nothing, and you know everything all the time, how about you demonstrate what you know? You think everyone's so poorly informed about everything? Inform them. Share. That's what socialism's all about isn't it? Or are you practicing intellectual capitalism?
Keep spitting out your dummy Georgem, It was a question ask out of curious sake, that Shoong could not answer but had to do his normal silly thing and try and twist thing about.

Yep. Total spin. The headline could just as easily have been "Southampton most successful at tackling drink-driving".

Of course, the figures themselves are utterly meaningless.

I forgot to ask, do your fellow TUSC members know that daily you log on to this site and call members of the electorate stupid at the same time claiming to be some kind of intellectual?

Has this new campaign technique you're trying been approved by the leaders of the TUSC?

Hypothetically, if I were to send them some samples of your posts essentially claiming that because I did not enter further education it has made me too stupid to vote for the TUSC, what do you think the response would be? ' it takes some body who have carried on learning things after leaving school'. That sounds like something a stuck up Tory would say.
I wonder what Dave Nellist and/or Bob Crowe would think of that?

Hypothetically of course... ;)

Are we worst City for drink driving or are our City Police folk better at spotting Drink Drivers?

How often do you see Police near a village pub where farmers and other locals drive home after a night at the pub?

Personally, I feel if you're driving, you shouldn't touch a drop of alcohol, even a shandy as alcohol has different effects of different people.

If I've had a good night out, I won't even drive in the morning, but that's me and we're all different.

PLEASE, don't drink and drive!

I think the scientific world is still reeling after Southy explained that air will burn and combustion can take place without oxygen. Perhaps you could include those bloopers on the list. There haven't been lists of 'rights' granted by the Magna Carta in any of the Redbridge epistles lately so he may have finally realised that he was never going to understand that particular document.
