Southampton man caught in city centre park with £1,000 worth of illegal drugs

Man caught with £1,000 worth of illegal drugs Man caught with £1,000 worth of illegal drugs

A MAN has been jailed after police found him with over £1,000 worth of drugs in a city park.

Ahmed Zelgay was arrested on Friday, July 27, in Hoglands Park, Southampton, after officers from the Operation Fortress team saw him acting suspiciously.

DC Simon Woods from the Operation Fortress team said: “We saw Zelgay meet with local drug users and then carried out a stop-check on him.

“A struggle ensued and he tried running off, but we pursued him and detained him before conducting a drug search.

“He was found to be carrying several wraps of what were latter confirmed to be heroin and cocaine with a value of £1,060, as well as £195 in cash.

“One of the aims of Operation Fortress is to make life as uncomfortable as possible for those who come to Southampton to deal drugs and who can often be involved in violence as a result.

“That’s exactly what we’ve done in this instance and Zelgay’s sentence serves as a warning to anyone else thinking of committing similar crimes.”

Zelgay, 20, of Clovelly Road, Southampton, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin. He was sentenced to 16 months at a young offender institution at Southampton Crown Court today.

Ahmed is a very common name in this country. How do you know this guy isn't British? Do you not like people called Ahmed?

I have nothing against Ahmed.... I have something against the immegration laws that allow people with drug connections to move to the UK to ply their trade....

If indeed Ahmed is born and bred an Englishman, then fair enough I am wrong.... but a pound to a penny he isn't....

It doesn't really matter who he is - one less drug dealer is something to be pleased about.

So what should the immigration laws do? Should there be a box on a form that says "Tick here if you are a drug dealer"?
