A teenager was grabbed from behind by a man as she walked home in Fareham.

The 19-year-old believes she was followed by the man from the bus stop on West Street to the area known as The Gillies.

The man, believed to be in his early 20s and described as having short blond hair and wearing a fluorescent jacket, grabbed the woman, covered her mouth - causing her to fall to the ground - and asked to use her mobile phone.

Detective Constable Wes Arnold from Fareham police station said: “This was an isolated incident and at this time we do not know the motive as the victim was not threatened and the suspect did not use violence or steal anything.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area of West Street or The Gillies at the time of the incident to contact police if they saw anyone wearing a fluorescent jacket or matching the description.”

The incident happened at around 10.30pm on Thursday.

Anyone with information should call Det Con Arnold at Fareham police station on 101.
