IOW Council leader resigns from position
THE man in charge of Isle of Wight Council is leaving after two years in the job.
Joe Duckworth has resigned from his chief executive post to take up a similar position for the London borough of Newham.
He said during his time at the council he had put in place proper financial controls and created a clearer vision for the future.
The announcement of his resignation comes just days after councillors voted to reorganise the Island's education system - leading to the closure of around 12 primary schools.
Mr Duckworth said he "wholeheartedly" endorsed the council's decision.
