Conservative candidate Maria Hutchings begins canvassing for votes in Eastleigh by-election
12:30pm Friday 8th February 2013 in Eastleigh

Tory candidate begins canvassing for votes in by-election
CONSERVATIVE Eastleigh by-election candidate Maria Hutchings has been walking the streets of the town as she launches her bid to become its next MP.
The mother-of-four walked Market Street shaking hands with people and asking about their concerns and stopping at the local butchers, surrounded by photographers and reporters as well as Conservative party members with blue balloons and posters.
Maria, who was accompanied by Conservative party chairman Grant Shapps, then stopped at Poppins Cafe to answer questions from the local and national media.
She was asked everything from her views on abortion to the referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union.
Maria said she did not want to talk about Chris Huhne, who resigned the seat on Monday following his guilty plea to perverting the course of justice and that this was about looking forward.
“I have lived and breathed Eastleigh, I understand everything in terms of listening to the people here and trying to get their case across, listening to what they want and this is an ideal opportunity for me to put myself forward and hopefully if they think I'm worthy they'll vote for me.”
She said a key issue for her was the economy.

No mention of it in their manifesto, but they are about to change our centuries-old tradition of marriage. Whether we are in favour or not doesn't matter, it's being changed, so there! (Personally, I'm in favour - but our views are irrelevant anyway)
We're all wealthy in Hampshire, so who cares about the benefit cuts to low paid workers and the unemployed? In fact, we're all extremely wealthy in Hampshire, so who cares about the removal of child benefit from the middle classes?
We're all so wealthy we can all enjoy the Tory cut in the top rate of tax for the highest earners, can't we? Great stuff.
And we don't enjoy a drink at home, so the Tories minimum 45p unit price of alcohol tax, which will increase some bottles of cider from £3.50 to over £10 a bottle, just doesn't matter. The Tories were against this at the last election, but not now they are in power, so it's just another Tory tax lie. But we don't care, we're loaded.
And remember, it's the rest who are 'dishonest', so let's vote Tory. Fantastic!
Plus: Tory bonus - we'll also get our new nuclear bombs, at a cost of £30 billion to us. What austerity?

This candidate is just what we need in Eastleigh as our MP. Honest, hard working, speaks it as it is, heavily involved with Local issues that really affect Local Residents that the Lib Dems fail to help upon. She is a firm believer in Family values, and is passionate and supportive about those issues that we are all worried about. She gets things done. She nows just like the rest of us that times are hard and how every penny must be watched to pay the bills. She is against overdevelopment and Develpment of Greenfield sites for housing.. a major local issue. She is approachable and is willing to tackle anything that comes her way. She hung around after the general election to contiue helping the residents of Eastleigh, unlike other party candidates who scattered to the four corners. She will get my vote .. Again. And I am sure many other thousands of votes too.
Go For it Maria!

With Lib-Dem in free fall in opinion polls along with likely back lash over horror created by Huhne they are left with a super steep mountain to climb.
With UKIP competing Tory vote, despite their getting off the mark quickly, will be divided. Unpopularity of Osborne’s policies will also have knock on effect.
These difficulties of others could have been big advantage for NuLabour, which with proper campaign and right candidate could simply walk through the gap. So I am surprised that Milliband led machine is trying to shoot itself down.
Why hasn’t NuLabour got moving? Why so far people know nothing about who is going to be their candidate? Is their leadership so busy sipping champagne that they have not found time to think about Eastleigh yet?
Come on local NuLabourites, in the past you have had an excellent candidate, Alan Lloyd who contested Eastleigh and attracted plenty of support, although at that time party did not throw many resources behind him because Eastleigh was not thought to be Labour winnable. Why are you missing this opportunity now?
As former Hampshire and Southampton Councillor Alan Lloyd is not only man with experience but also has superb reputation for hard work. Well known for helping ordinary people, including his political opponents, he is neither tainted with Blairism nor associated with hard left.
If Milliband and his advisors like John Denham really want to shed the shackles of NuLabourism and put their party back on the right track, then Alan Lloyd could be the best bet.
Because Alan is well known for opposing Blair’s wars, privatisation of NHS, and defending rights of ordinary workers.
His love for Labour values may not have ever made him popular with former Tories and Liberals who infiltrated Labour in 70s and hijacked party of working people for their selfish ambitions, but with him as candidate and high profile campaign Labour could walk through the gap to win Eastleigh.

Obviously the 'majority of people' will sweep TUSC into power. That'll teach 'the few', won't it?

Still a 50/50 chance of getting it right would score much better than your running average.

Time for a sea change in politics. A vote for Lib/Lab/Con is a vote for more of the EU, more uncontrolled immigration and less self determination. A vote for UKIP is a vote for a Party that wants to see an exit from the money squandering EU, a return of autonomy, a return of democracy, and and control over our borders. I will be voting UKIP

Fourth largest party? That's a laugh. You will have to overtake the Greens, UKIP, BNP, and even the English Democrats to come anywhere near that accolade.
I mean, even Southampton First beat TUSC in 2012 in 3 out of the 5 wards you both contested in Southampton. LOL.
