MYSTERY surrounds how a Hampshire woman’s mental health deteriorated in the months leading up to her death, an inquest heard.

Despite regular visits from mental health workers, Southampton Coroner’s Court was unable to determine how Hannelore Budworth’s mental state deteriorated before she died from a fatal drugs overdose on February 10 last year.

Coroner Keith Wiseman agreed with a medical report concluding that there “didn’t seem as though there was anything significant that could have been done” to stop Mrs Budworth’s decline.

The 66-year old had moved to Hillside Crescent, Chandler’s Ford, from Derby when she became ill in 2011 after her husband died and three years after one of her daughters died.

Mr Wiseman, who recorded a verdict of suicide, said: “The totality of her recent history overwhelmed her and in the course of action she decided to take her own life.

“It will always be a mystery. I’m sure it’s a mystery to the professionals involved and to the family.”
