THOUSANDS of people attended a rally held in memory of a Hampshire steam engine enthusiast who died nearly 25 years ago.

More than 30 steam engines were paraded at Highbridge Farm, in Eastleigh, where thousands of pounds was raised for two Hampshire charities.

Organisers of the Bill Targett Memorial Steam Rally managed to collect £2,500 for the Wessex Cancer Trust and £1,000 for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Vice chairman of the organising committee Mike Ralph thanked all the people who turned up top help raise cash for the good causes.
