A HAMPSHIRE health trust is in the running for glory at a prestigious medical awards.

Solent NHS Trust has been shortlisted for an honour at this year’s Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards.

It has been chosen as one of the ten final candidates in the Clinical Research Impact category after being whittled down from 59 entrants.

The awards recognise excellence in the industry and have this year attracted 1,300 entries.

The trust’s application highlights its aims to encourage frontline clinical staff to actively participate in research by offering internships, secondments and split clinical and academic roles.

These include a new research physiotherapist and staff research ambassadors.

They have also encouraged clinicians to introduce clinical trials to service users and have enrolled almost 250 patients onto trials.

Trust head of research Dr Sarah Williams said she is “immensely proud” of the achievement.

Finalists are preparing to appear before the judging panel next month before the winners are announced on Wednesday, November 19.
