THE UK’s third permanent Cage Cricket arena has been opened in Eastleigh.

Founded by former Hampshire cricketer Lawrie Prittipaul, Cage Cricket is already played at the Ageas Bowl and as far north as Salford.

Now it can also be played at The Hub on Bishopstoke Road after the venue was transformed by ten youngsters participating in the National Citizen Scheme run by Youth Options.

They washed cars to raise money for paint and then spent hours marking the court with the appropriate colours.

The Cage was opened by Mark Dixon (CEO, Youth Options), Stuart Robertson (Commercial Director of Hampshire Cricket) and Simon Young (MD, Cage 4 All CIC).

Youth Options co-ordinator, Maria Kimber, said: “The youngsters worked so hard, they wanted to show that Cage is something that can be played all year round. To see the game being played and coached under the floodlights is amazing. We hope groups of all ages and abilities from across Eastleigh and the wider community will embrace it at all times of the year.”

As part of the ongoing commitment to provide opportunities for the local community, The Hub will be holding staff-led drop-in sessions every Wednesday from 5.30pm.

Any groups who would like more information about Cage, or would like to play at the Hub should email thehub@ youthoptions.co.uk or simon.cage4all@gmail.
