JURORS have heard from the wife of alleged murder victim Choudhry Zishan who described her husband as a fantastic father who had no enemies.

In a statement read to Winchester Crown Court the newsagent’s widow Sabina Malik described how their son never got the chance to see his dad the night before he died as Mr Zishan, who was nicknamed Shaun, had been working late.

"Shaun's son never got to see his Dad.

"He loved his son so much and he was a fantastic father."

The prosecution has alleged that Mr Zishan was killed as a result of a “sustained and vicious attack” as he left his home in Eastleigh to pick up Sunday newspapers for one of his shops at around 4.30am on March 30.

The attack is alleged to have been carried out by brothers Jonathan and Samuel McKinley, who had been on a drunken night out in the town.

Sabina Malik's statement was made to police following her husband's killing, when she was 18 weeks pregnant with the couple's second child.

"He never had any enemies."

Sabina said she couldn't believe her husband's murder took place outside their home as she and her son slept inside, adding: "I didn't hear a thing."

Earlier in the day jurors heard from a resident who witnessed the alleged attack, prompting a flurry of 999 calls from a number of witnesses.

The call from Michelle Johnson was played to the jury. In it, she told police how she could hear cars being smashed into and the shouted words “I've got him in a headlock”.

Sam McKinley, 25, of no fixed abode, and Jon McKinley, 23, of Devon Drive, Chandler's Ford, deny murder.
