ONE of the brothers accused of murdering a Hampshire newsagent by kicking and beating him to death was found with injuries to his feet and hands following his arrest, a court heard.

Jon McKinley had “generalised swelling and some bruising of the right foot and ankle” after being picked up by police following the killing of Choudhry Zishan.

Winchester Crown Court heard how the back of his right hand was discoloured and distended and had small cuts on it.

Officers took photos and made sketches of both his hands to record the extent of the damage.

Jonathan McKinley, 23, of Devon Drive, Chandler’s Ford, and his brother Samuel McKinley, 25, of no fixed abode, both deny murder.

Jurors were also shown footage secretly filmed by police as the brothers were taken in a police van to and from Southampton Magistrates Court for their first appearance.

In it, Sam asks his younger sibling what happened to his hand, to which Jon replies that it’s now ‘useless’.

The pair can be seen talking, though much of their conversation is lost amid engine noise.

Jon is then heard describing how he started laughing when officers told him he was being arrested for murder, whereas Sam said his knees buckled at the news.

The jury heard a discussion between the pair about how the case was being put together before Jon said: “If the post mortem is he died from a heart attack we can’t get done for that.

“I’m not answering any questions, I’m just saying ‘no comment’.”

The court has previously heard how Choudhry Zishan suffered fatal injuries when he was savagely attacked outside his shop in Eastleigh’s High Street at 4.30am on March 30.

He died of a fractured skull and severe head injuries shortly after being kicked, pummelled and slammed against parked cars.

The 35-year-old’s wife Sabina was pregnant with their second child at the time of his killing.
