POLICE are hunting three men following an assault on a taxi driver in a supermarket car park.

One of them punched the 45-year-old driver in the side of the head in what police described as an unprovoked attack as he dropped them off in the Asda car park in Chandler's Ford.

The men, who had been picked up from the Witts Hill area of Southampton and were in the backseat, then made off without paying the fare.

They went in the direction of Chestnut Avenue.

The taxi driver was uninjured in the attack.

All three of the men were described as in their late teens or early twenties and two of them were white, one wearing a dark hoodie with a dark baseball cap and the other a grey hoodie.

The third man was mixed race.

Police would like to speak to all three men and are appealing for witnesses to the incident, on Saturday night, some time between 9-10pm.

They would particularly like to hear from occupants of a car that was behind the taxi who may have seen the assault.

Call PC Jason Gore at Eastleigh Police on 101.
