COUNCILLORS will decide on renewed plans for a pet store at a Hampshire retail park that could create 25 jobs.

Proposals for the Pets at Home store at the Hedge End Retail Park will be considered on Monday 18 months after they were refused.

The store would be built on current car parking for customers of the existing shops at the retail park, Homebase, Currys and PC World. It would sell pet food and accessories, live animals and offer pet care, treatment and grooming facilities.

Site owner CBRE Lionbrook Property Fund has met Eastleigh Borough Council officers to try to address concerns from the first application.

These included the choice of site when others were available, the lack of road improvements around the stores, the impact on existing businesses and access to the site affecting pedestrians.

Hedge End Parish Council also objected over the loss of car parking, traffic and overdevelopment.

The applicant has said the new proposal includes significant improvements to the roundabout junction for the retail park, new pedestrian walkways and a new dedicated crossing point.

A council officers’ report is recommending it be approved.

Councillors on the Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee will meet to decide the proposal.
