There was no snow but heavy wind and rain are on their way to Hampshire

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for the South East as 75mph gusts are set to batter southern coastlines from 3pm this afternoon.

Heavy rain is expected to follow hours later and continue to pour until 6am tomorrow, leading the county council and Highways Agency to issue flood warnings.

And South West Trains has told passengers to keep checking for updates as cancellations and delays are possible.

Road users driving high-sided vehicles, riding motorcycles or towing caravans are being urged to check traffic and weather conditions before setting out on journeys and to stick to speed restrictions once they are on the roads

Extra crews are on standby, including arboriculture teams who can deal with fallen trees on the roads throughout the day and night.

Stocks of filled sandbags are ready to be deployed onto the roads network to keep water off, and vehicles will remain on standby through the night for potential extra salt spreading on priority routes in case of ice.

It comes hours after warnings of snow and ice for Hampshire - although the white stuff failed to appear.
