A SHOPPING centre manager will take his place on the line of the London Marathon for his son.

Daniel Kitchen, manager of the Swan Shopping Centre in Eastleigh, is running the 26.2-mile distance to raise funds for Genetic Disorders UK.

This comes after his son Finn, 7, was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Joubert Syndrome that affects one in 200,000 people.

It affects Finn’s stamina, balance, movement and coordination.

As part of Daniel’s commitment to raising funds and awareness for the charity the Swan Centre put on a family fun day with entertainment and collections provided by volunteers earlier this year.

Daniel, 37, from Kings Worthy, who has raised £1,750 so far, is hoping to complete tomorrow’s marathon in less than five hours, cheered on by his son who will be halfway round the course.

“Over the past seven years my boy has consistently amazed me achieving things we never thought would be possible,” said Daniel.

“He has shown a courage and determination to prove that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.

“It is my turn to follow in his footsteps and take on a real challenge of my own.”
