POLICE are renewing their investigation today after a brazen attempt to break into a cash machine.

As reported, raiders targeted a cash machine at Boyatt Shopping Centre on Shakespeare Road in Eastleigh, erecting a structure built out of crates and tarpaulin to cover the cash machine.

Tools were then used to try to gain access to the ATM itself.

But an alarm was activated and police were subsequently called at about 4.30am - with the thieves fleeing empty handed.

The surrounding wall outside Boyatt News was was left damaged by the attempted break in on Friday shortly after 1am.

Police say three men were seen acting suspiciously in the area around the cash machine.
