A HAMPSHIRE pub may have to close today after its electrical system blew up overnight.

Firefighters were called to The New Clock Inn in Fair Oak Road just before midnight when the external electrical supply overloaded and blew up.

A spokesman for Eastleigh Fire Station said that the box then caught fire, causing a small amount of damage to a sheltered area outside the pub and smoke travelled through an air vent into the bar.

A crew was called to the scene at 11.55pm yesterday and when they arrived at the scene the landlord and lady were waiting outside and the fire had already gone out.

Nobody was injured during the incident and a firefighter called Southern Electric to investigate and make sure the property was safe.

The Eastleigh Fire spokesman added: “There was some minor fire damage outside and a lot of smoke indoors so the landlord and lady were told they couldn’t stay there overnight and I believe they are planning to call their own electrician to analyse the problem this morning and see if they can open to the public later this afternoon.”
