THE Southampton-based SoCo Music Project have announced a fresh new music ensemble for the city.

The Urban Orchestra will bring together musicians from a range of genres including classical, jazz, hiphop, rock and world music.

SoCo will be assembling the group to learn together and unleash their musical talent.

Matt Salvage, director of SoCo, said: “We’re thinking big with The Urban Orchestra. We see a lot of talent across Hampshire and we want musicians from all levels, backgrounds and genres to have the opportunity to work and play together; developing an exciting and fun repertoire and take the show on the road.”

The Urban Orchestra will grow and develop as its numbers build.

The first session will take place as part of Rob da Bank’s Music Club at The Courthouse in Eastleigh on Thursday from 6pm-8pm.

Musicians of all abilities are encouraged to come along with their instrument of choice, or just their voice, and take part in what will be a fun and noisy first session.

The project will be delivered in partnership with Southampton Music Service as part of the Southampton Music Hub.
