GRIEVING relatives have paid tribute to a man who died after his car plunged onto the Hampshire railway on Thursday.

Chris James Whyton, 32, of Coxford Road, Lordswood, died in the crash in Allington Lane.

A statement from relatives issued today said: "Family and friends are devastated at the sudden loss of Chris.

"A cherished and much loved son, brother, uncle and friend. His gentle, caring and loving nature will be sadly missed by all who knew him, along with his thoughtful ways towards others.

"He will always be in our prayers."

Mr Whyton was the driver of a silver Skoda which was travelling along Allington Lane at 12.35pm when the car left the road and landed on the railway tracks.

Investigations into the exact cause of the collision are ongoing under the name Operation Costner.
