ROD Stewart fans were outraged by the organisation of a Hampshire concert as it took them more than two hours to get out of the car park.

Organisers of the event have been slammed after reports there was only one entrance and exit for buses and cars to get through – causing mayhem as people left the Ageas Bowl.

The venue said more than 26,000 people attended the event on Friday evening, hailed as one of the 71-year-old's best.

But some said the traffic misery left a “sour taste” after the show.

Disgruntled concert-goers, many of whom paid over £120 for tickets, were stuck waiting to get a bus to their allotted car park for more than an hour.

Fans also complained of huge queues at the gates and bars, poor crowd control and ticket office chaos which meant people arrived at their seats to find people sitting in them.

Ageas Bowl officials will meet on Monday morning to review the event, which a spokesman said was standard procedure.

Organisers are yet to comment on the traffic issues which started at around 11pm. Some fans said they diddn’t leave the car park until just before 2am.

Simon Rowley was among those affected.

He said the organisation for the exit was “appalling” and although many people were very light-hearted after such a great show there were some who became aggressive and stewards had to intervene.

Simon said: “It was just total chaos, it was a lot worse getting out than in it took me nearly three hours to get from the arena to exiting the car park with my family it was outrageous.

“It’s all down to the fact that there was only one way for buses to get in and out and because everyone was in a rush people were refusing to give way and that was causing a standstill with car drivers getting more irritated and people on foot getting frustrated as they waited for the bus to take them to the car parks it was horrendous.

Daily Echo:

“The actual show was amazing and everyone I spoke to loved it so hopefully it didn’t taint the night too much most people seemed to have high spirits from the show but it was very frustrating.”

Another fan said: “Someone’s head should roll for how poorly that was organised. It was utter mayhem everyone was bulldozing around the place it left a really nasty taste to the whole evening and there was no need for it at all they could have organised it much more efficiently and saved everyone the grief it took me nearly two hours to get out it was a really nasty environment to be in after the show.”

Ticket office staff were also criticised for their handling of booking problems.

Silvia Compton, 56, from Shirley, was part of a group of four but was told only three tickets were available.

After a lengthy altercation with staff, who Ms Compton claimed spoke poor English, they found their seats were already filled.

"It was chaos," she said. "Rod Stewart was on the stage by the time I got to my seat and he had been for 15 minutes."

Other fans have taken to social media to say “never again” would they attend a concert at the Ageas Bowl.

Natalie Miller posted on Facebook: “It was disgraceful organisation. There was a lack of crowd control, lack of stewards and first aid. I’ve never felt so unsafe at a gig. Ageas should be banned from ever holding a concert like that again. Rod was fab however the Ageas Bowl and the production company let him down.”

Christine Lawrence posted: “Agree with bad organisation but Rod was fabulous. Knew the venue and West End wouldn't cope with it, I was lucky I live up the road so was able to walk but still took me an hour to get in.”

Eastleigh Borough Council has yet to respond to the Daily Echo's approach for comment.
