EASTLEIGH MP Mims Davies has been appointed right hand woman to the Government's digital policy minister.

The former local radio presenter will be Parliamentary Private Secretary to Matt Hancock at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

She is the latest Hampshire MP handed a new role under Theresa May's reshuffle.

“I am absolutely honoured and delighted to be able to join the Government and I thank Matt for the opportunity to work in such an important department," Ms Davies said.

“I have an interest and background in the media with local radio, so this will be something I can get to grips with very quickly and I’m looking forward to the challenge.

"This part of Government is all about our growing creative industries and having a strong digital infrastructure to support our economy

“I hope it will enable me to raise the profile of Eastleigh even more, and everyone can rest assured I will continue to work as hard as I can for residents.”

Caroline Nokes, Steve Brine and Caroline Dinenage have all picked up junior posts in the past week, while Sir Desmond Swayne was dropped as a development minister.

Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery has kept his role as PPS to Mrs May as she enters Downing Street.
