A NEW ‘rock venue’ could be the next attraction to be built in Eastleigh Town Centre.

Residents are being urged to support the climbing boulder project, dubbed ‘The Rocky Road’, which will only get funding from the Aviva Community Fund if enough people vote for it, before November 18.

If the money is secured, the new climbing feature will be placed in the middle of Grantham Green, off Grantham Road, and will be complete with hand and toe holds, to help children and young people develop their skills and fitness whilst also having fun.

Eastleigh Borough Council (EBC) is calling on as many people as possible to throw their support behind the project and help make it a reality.

It comes as part of a major transformation project about to be undertaken by EBC alongside OneCommunity and the Friends of Grantham Green.

The improvements will include seating, new paths and picnic tables as well as trees, shrubs and a wildflower meadow.

The planned focal point of the green’s re-landscaping is a large mound which will hopefully be topped off with the climbing boulders, if all goes to plan.

Ward Councillor Wayne Irish said: “It is fantastic, the green has become a bit bland over the years and now we are going to have flowers, plants and landscaping and it will look like a real park.

“It will be quite an interesting feature of the green and I think the children will love playing on it.

“I hope as many residents as possible will back this worthwhile bid.”

The authority has been working with OneCommunity on promoting the project and have made a video, to demonstrate how the Grantham Green climbing feature will deliver real benefits to people in the neighbourhood.
