A Hampshire charity received a visit from three Eastleigh football players as they donated their time to help build a new shed.

Fledge House, a charity in Eastleigh, provides housing for homeless young adults aged between 18 and 26.

The house accommodates the vulnerable occupants for between three and six months, offering financial and household management skills as part of a support package before they leave.

Club captain Sam Togwell, goalkeeper Graham Stack and forward Ben Strevens visited the house in Eastleigh to help build a shed, which was first purchased before Christmas after the charity received a sizeable donation.

Nerissa Dean, the project manager at the house, praised the club for its work giving back to the community.

Nerissa said: “We’re really grateful to the club for what they’ve done. They asked us if there was anything they could do and we had this shed here ready to build. We don’t have a lot of space, some of the occupants here have a lot of stuff.

“It’s been great for the girls to see people come down and help them. They see it but they often wonder why somebody would want to offer their time, but the players have been wonderful.”

The house was opened in May last year after previously setting up homeless young adults with other families before they received their own space, which currently has five rooms.

Ben Strevens was pleased to be able to lend his time, and insisted there was more to come from the club around the community over the coming weeks.

Ben said: “It was lovely to come down to help out, it’s the least we can do. It’s important work that they do here. The staff have been wonderful, making us cups of tea as we try to help out.

“It’s about bringing the community together, the club are trying to make sure we get out in the community and do as much as we can. I hope that the shed stays together!”
