A MULTI-MILLION pound technology centre in Hampshire has now been completed.

The last brick of the construction was laid at the new advanced technology centre at Eastleigh College.

The new building is part of a £12 million redevelopment project which has also seen the modernisation of the rear of the college and brand new teaching facilities for art, hair and beauty.

The new centre will provide a range of facilities for students of all ages studying computer science, engineering and construction.

It also aims to boast state-of-the-art features such as an IT networking laboratory, suites with specialist 3D printing software, industrial robotics and an anti-static electronics lab, all of which will be installed over the coming months.

During an event to celebrate the completion of the building, lead contractors Amiri Construction presented Jan Edrich, chief executive and principal at Eastleigh College, with a commemorative plaque which will be displayed within the centre.

Dr Edrich said: “We are delighted with the quality of the superb new facilities that this building and our entire campus redevelopment will provide.

“For me, the immense opportunities that this will give our students and the local area for generations to come is extremely exciting, and we look forward to welcoming our new students into these fantastic facilities over the coming months.”

Paul Phasey, lead architect on the construction for Architecture PLB, said: “I didn’t know very much about the college before this project, but it is clear to me that this is an institution with high aspirations and the back bone to back it up, which for this project I think has really paid off.”
