A WEDDING anniversary party descended into chaos after teenagers armed with baseball bats attacked revellers in a Hampshire estate.

The incident in Chamberlayne Road, Bursledon, saw what police described as a “dispute” involving 20 people.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

A bystander who witnessed the commotion told how the incident unfolded when youths arrived at the party and were told to leave.

The witness said the gang of youths came in bigger numbers on mopeds brandishing baseball bats and started attacking people at the party.

Armed police were called to the incident, and a witness told the Daily Echo that two men suffered minor injuries after being struck with baseball bats, although neither of the men required hospital treatment.

By the time police arrived the group had dispersed and no arrests were made, and they seized three bladed weapons.

The person who witnessed the incident, who asked not to be named, said: “The youths were told to go away, there were children at the party, but it did not matter.

“They hit two people with bats, and then the police came.”

The bystander said that anti-social behaviour by teenagers is an issue in Bursledon

The person said: “There has been an awful lot of trouble. I hear a lot of it and see a lot of it, these youths are very brazen and very gobby and getting up to stuff they should not be doing. Everybody is upset about this.

“We hope the police sort the issues out.”

Jane Rich, chair of Bursledon Parish Council said that despite the incident the area does not have an anti-social behavioural issue.

Cllr Rich said: “There is a very good community spirit here and like anywhere else there are local incidents in the village. It is just a one-off with a very small number of people involved.”

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “This looks to have resulted from a dispute about a party. Around 20 people were involved – male/female, mainly in their teens.”

The incident happened on July 22, at around 11pm. Anyone who witnessed it or who has information is urged to call 101.
