A HAMPSHIRE MP has met a Gurkha and Nepalese Association.

Eastleigh MP Mims Davies has spent a morning talking with the Eastleigh Gurkha and Nepalese Association (EGNA) about their work supporting over 200 Gurkha and Nepalese residents.

The group supports its members and offers advice and counselling to those in need while striving for social inclusion and integration into the wider community.

They have now asked Ms Davies to look into several topics including benefits agency allowances.

They said a new rule set by the Government limits the time they are allowed to receive benefits agency allowances such as pension credits while they are visiting family in Nepal to four weeks and said that is not enough for many of them to travel to remote villages of Nepal, spend time with their families and come back to the UK.

Ms Davies said:“When I met the association I was made to feel very welcome and I was able to get a sense of the inclusive community they are working hard to create in my constituency.”

I will be following up on the discussions we had today and making enquiries on their behalf for a range of topics. I admire the work the EGNA are doing locally and will continue to offer my support in making residents feel at home in Eastleigh.”
