A NEW date for one of the largest 10k road races in the country has been announced.

The Eastleigh 10k will now take place on June 17, organisers have announced.

It comes after the original race, due to take place on Sunday, March 18, was postponed due to snow.

Organisers “reluctantly” called off the event due to “extreme weather forecast” on the advice of local agencies and the Met Office, a spokesman said.

Hendy Eastleigh 10k road race organisers have applied for a new road closure order and are hoping that the weather will be better in June.

The event on June 17 is set to attract 2,800 runners- making it the largest 10k in the south.

This year all runners will again receive a commemorative medal and technical T-shirt.

There will also be new prize categories for up to 70+ age groups together with a 15-16 year age category.
