Plea to stop people urinating in streets of Eastleigh

IT is the foul aftermath left behind by a sea of boozed-up revellers.

A stench wafting from filthy alleyways and grimy pavements.

Now council bosses have launched a poster campaign in a bid to stop drinkers urinating in a Hampshire town centre.

The message “Go B4 U Go” aims to remind people in Eastleigh to use the toilets before the pubs close.

This follows complaints from residents and business owners that pub-goers are using the back streets and alleyways to relieve themselves.

The posters are being given out to pubs, clubs and restaurants in the town.

Owners of High Street restaurant Guzel Meze Hasan and Jill Yalvac say something must be done to tackle the problem.

Jill said: “It is horrendous, particularly when so much is being to done to improve the area.

Fines “It is hard to know if those responsible will take any notice of the posters but I certainly support the campaign but think it must be combined with a system of fines.”

Joanne Dukic, Choices sandwich shop boss, said: “I think it is important more is done to make Eastleigh a desirable location and if these posters help achieve that I think they are a very good idea.

“It is a little sad though if adults need to be prompted to remind them to use a toilet.”

Fines of up to £500 have been handed out as part of a police crackdown.

Earlier this year the Daily Echo exclusively revealed 42 people had been successfully prosecuted and been hit with charges totalling £8,201 in just 12 months in Eastleigh.

Councillors and police officers on the Joint Action Committee had even looked at the possibility of rolling out a set of wheelie bin urinals.

Eastleigh Local Area Committee chairman Chris Thomas said: “We are determined to get the message across that we won’t tolerate this type of behaviour from a small minority of people who visit the town centre.”

Here starts the flood of compliments relating the beautiful area of Eastleigh and it's inhabitants.

Where does the Eastleigh end and the filth and stench begin?

I thought that Plod used the indecent exposure lark on people taking a leak? If that doesn't stop them then a poster has got no chance. As an aside the charge indecent exposure has no lost all credebility.

Yeah, and Winchester is an oasis of peace, tranquility and undisturbed bliss. You not getting out much these days Ted?
Best bet, tie a knot in it; works every time.

By way of comparison I completely agree with your assessment of Winchester vs Eastleigh and of course the violent hovel that is Southampton.

I fully understand if you don't go out much.

So, the wheelie bins have been replaced with posters!
(I'll refer to /news/5073978.Urinal

.
Age of austerity I guess. Amsterdam have those 'Green Meanies' on the street for a gentleman to nip into for a tinkle on the journey home. Why can't good old Eastleigh employ such a civilised method of relief?
.
A poster just gives them something to aim for.

I would have thought the Police could raise far more than £8k in wee fines on any single Friday night in Winchester!!!! Scary thing is, on Sunday I was walking past the Point in Eastleigh in broad daylight whilst a young 'hoodie' type lad was relieving himself on the front of the building, which was closed for business at the time.

Is someone taking the pi** here? As if a poster is going to work. They will probably end up being used as bog rolls.

Spot, they cant be done for indecent exposure as there is no sexual connotation. The could possibly russle up the old Offending Public Decency charge (one of the old 1880 public order charges that still stands along with the various transport and assault laws from that same document)
.
As for Winchester and Eastleigh. I dont have a problem with either area, both have some nice bits and bad bits, a little bit silly to say one is better than the other.

Does anyone remember the Irish shop keeper who got taken to court? He put electric wires across his door step to "dissuade" unsaviouries from taking a wee on his doorstep.

Behind shops, through letterboxes and in doorways.

When I used to deliver to cafes and restaurants years ago and was offered tea at many I made a point of knowing where public loos were to pass on this bounty. Southampton was well provided with these facilities and they were usually open early to late.
Over the years these have all closed and it is no wonder that the wrong places are used to answer natures call.
Vandalism is usually quoted, but it is possible to build vandal proof toilets.
Totton has more Public loos than Southampton, so before you blame and fine the miscreants, sort out your facilities.

I was hearing similar things from incomers 35 years ago, Eastleigh was a sh!thole then too. Joanne your pulling someone's p!$$er if you really believe, you can stop those that need to relieve... And don't just blame the men, squatting wimin p!$$!ng in door ways is quite common, and common, too!

Portswood is just the same - however nobody takes any action. Opposite the bus stop outside Wairose, adults are always using the alley as a toilet stop in front of people who are waiting for the bus - absolutely disgusting behaviour.

The poster could make for good toilet paper if one is also in need of an urgent No2, maybe after a particularly hot curry?
