A mysterious powder found at a depot in Bishopstoke has burnt several workers.

The white crystallised substance was found in the back of an articulated lorry trailer this morning at couriers UPS, in Dutton Lane.

Six people are reported to have had a reaction after coming into contact with the chemical, which is believed to be an industrial cleaning powder.

Fire crews from Eastleigh and St Mary's, plus specialist Hazardous Materials officers were called at 7.20am to the depot to help with decontamination, which took an hour and 45 minutes.

One worker told the Daily Echo that four people have been taken to hospital, one with burns to their eyes and another with burns to their arms.
