Around 80 properties were left without power last night, after a cable fault in Fair Oak .

Fire fighters were called to Brook Road at around 7.15pm to reports that smoke was coming from a manhole cover.

Engineers from Southern Electric also went to the road, and decided they had to isolate supplies at 8.40pm in order to fix the problem.

Homes in Brook Road and nearby Campbell Way had no electricity while repairs were carried out.

Southern Electric say there was no fire in the cabling, but a small amount of smoke was produced as a result of the fault.

They have apologised to residents affected.

Power came back on at 4.15am.
