An elderly man has been injured in a crash in Hedge End .

The 82-year-old was crossing the road near the junction of St John's Road and Upper Northam Road when he was hit by a black Volkswagen Golf.

Police say he was taken to Southampton General Hospital with head injuries after the accident, which happened at around 9am this morning.

St John's Road is currently closed while emergency services deal with the crash and motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
