REPORTER Martyn Smith is getting set for a charity cycling marathon and readers will be able to get regular online updates.

The News Group journalist is swapping his pen for pedals to ride from John O'Groats to Land's End to raise cash for Dementia UK.

He will be on the road with Warren Evans, boss of Base Studios and music venue in Stourbridge, from Saturday June 8 and the pair are attempting the 980-mile trip alone with no support vehicle.

The pair are collecting for their chosen charity, with a target of £5,000, via the Just Giving website http://www.justgiving.com/Warren-Evans1

Base Studios, Rufford Road, is hosting a night of live music featuring Life in a Tin and the Liquor and Poker Band to help cover some of the costs of the trip.

Tickets for the show, on Saturday May 25, cost £5 are available in advance from the Base or on the door.
