DRIVERS have been stuck in the mud in Hampshire after a suspected satnav error has sent them the wrong way.

Vehicles have been held up in deep mud in Pondside Lane bridle path in Bishop’s Waltham, near Fareham, because it appears as a road on some navigation systems.

Residents near the path said it had happened several times and they have erected a warning sign.

And local company Boarhunt Recovery said it has towed two cars, a van and lorry from the field.

Colin Ryan from the Boarhunt vehicle rescue and recovery business said it first happened at the beginning of November and suspected satnavs updated information about the area at about that time following a new housing development.

Google Maps said its satnav app showed the path as a road but the error has since been fixed.
