A WOMAN has died after being hit by a train at a Hampshire railway station.
The incident happened near Portchester and services are currently delayed by an hour between Portsmouth Harbour, Havant and Fareham.
British Transport Police are currently at the scene and Network Rail say that disruption is likely to continue until 5pm.
BTP confirmed a woman was struck by a train and has died.
A BTP spokesman said: “Our officers were called to Portchester station at 2.45pm on Thursday, 8 January, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.
“Colleagues from Hampshire Constabulary and South Central Ambulance Service also attended and a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are currently working to identify the woman and inform her family.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
The following changes will apply to train services in the area:
First Great Western
Will start and terminate at Southampton Central and will not run through to Portsmouth Harbour
Southern
Portsmouth Harbour to Waterloo via Eastleigh services will be diverted and will run non stop between Hilsea and Woking.
Southern services will not run through to Southampton Central and will start / terminate at Havant or Portsmouth
SouthWest Trains
Portsmouth Harbour to Waterloo via Eastleigh services will be diverted and will run non stop between Hilsea and Woking.
Southampton Central to Portsmouth services may be cancelled, or only run between Southampton and Fareham
There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last but it is likely to continue until at least 17:00.
