POLICE were out in force last night after a teenage girl got onto a Hampshire railway line.

The National Police Air Service helicopter from Bournemouth was among resources deployed to the railway line at Fareham where it searched for the young person using a thermal imaging camera to help find the person.

Police officers and Network Rail staff also joined the search on the ground while trains were directed to slow down in the area.

British Transport Police said they had been called after a person was spotted walking on the line close to Fareham railway station shortly before 6pm last night .

Emergency services found a teenage girl, from Fareham, a short distance to the north of the station.

They removed her from the line at around 7.15pm and she was assessed by paramedics and then taken home to her family.

Hampshire Police confirmed they were called to a “concern for welfare” incident involving a teenage girl at Fareham train station and said the girl had been found safe and well.

British Transport Police said they are taking no further action.

A South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance spokesperson, said: “We were advised by Hampshire Police around 6.15pm of reports of a trespasser on the railway near Fareham.

“As a result, trains were run at a reduced speed through the area.

“The trespasser was removed by British Transport Police and services resumed around 7.15pm.”
