A glut of pumpkins gave gardener Christina Farley the idea for a fun fundraising drive that has proved a hit on social media.

Christina, 52, from Stubbington, wanted to do something to raise money for charity and was looking for something a bit different.

"My sister had done the London to Brighton bike ride and I have friends who have run the London Marathon and such like and I wanted to do something else, that everyone could join in with," she explains.

She came up the idea of inviting women to take Calendar Girls-style photos of themselves with their dignity protected by pumpkins and uploading them as their Facebook profile photos on Halloween.

Participants were invited to donate at least £2 to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness and the challenge raised some £370 for charity.

Thanks to popular demand, the challenge is back on this year, with Christina hoping to raise lots more money for the charity.

Christina set up a Facebook group for women wanting to take part in the challenge, Halloween Calendar Girls Charity Pumpkin Challenge, where they can upload their photos before going fully public with them on Halloween.

"It's a lot of fun," she says.

"Lots of the girls got together for a girly evening and took their photographs together.

"It's all done tastefully and has had a great reaction.

"People kept saying what a brilliant idea it was and asking if I would be running it again next year, so it's back!

"Some people didn't have the confidence to take part so they just donated, which is fine too."

Christina is hoping to recruit lots more women to take part in the challenge this year.
