A HAMPSHIRE MP has criticised "shambolic" rail services and demanded that improvements be made.

Fareham MP, Suella Fernandes, ordered the government to remove train operator Southern rail if their services to London did not improve.

Speaking in the House of Commons, the Tory politician said: "Southern rail allegedly serves Fareham, Swanwick and Portchester stations in my constituency, but commuters are fed up with the cancellation and severe delays.

"I am glad that the Secretary of State for Transport (Patrick McLoughlin) acknowledges that the service is not good enough, but will he reassure me that the mainline west and coastway west routes will be considered as part of the future improvements plan?

"Will the franchise be withdrawn if no improvements are made?"

Mr McLoughlin said the county was seeing unprecedented growth in rail traffic and transport and the government had increased its investment.
