POLICE have released a CCTV image as they try to track down an armed man who robbed a shop.

The man was believed to have taken a weapon, described by staff as a handgun, into the Grande Wine Store in Gosport.

The worker said he was threatened by the man, who had his face covered, at the store in Palmyra Road at about 9.30pm on March 27.

He took £340 in cash from the till before leaving.

No-one was hurt in the incident.

The man is described as white, between 6ft and 6ft 3ins tall, skinny and wearing a black padded raincoat with the hood up, dark trousers, black shoes, sky style gloves and a mask.

Investigating Officer DC Julie Way said: "I'd like to thank those people who have contacted us since our original appeal was issued.

"We are still not linking this to any other reports or incidents in the area. The premises were targeted at night when it was very wet and windy and not many people were out and about.

"We are still trying to establish if the weapon seen was a genuine handgun or an imitation firearm. Thankfully no-one was injured in this incident.

"I’d like to trace a man and a woman who used the store shortly beforehand and who may have seen what happened and anyone who may have found discarded clothing in the area".

Anyone with information should contact DC Way on 101, quoting 44160119412.
