YOBS attacked and punched a man in a Hampshire town and demanded he handed over his iPhone.

But they disgustedly shoved the device back to him after discovering it was already damaged.

Now police are urging for a woman seen helping the injured man in the aftermath of the attack to contact them immediately.

The victim was set upon by two men when he was walking along Chatsworth Way in New Milton.

One of them punched him in the face twice before ordering him to empty his pockets.

He handed them £20 cash and an iPhone.

But the men bizarrely handed the device back when they saw it had a cracked screen.

The victim was helped by a woman who gave him ice to treat his injuries.

One of the attackers is described as white, aged around 25 years, 5ft 10ins tall, of athletic build, with clean shaven and blue eyes.

He wore a white hooded top with a logo on the front and a blue line across it and blue jeans.

His accomplice is described as white, aged in his mid to late 20s, 5ft 10ins tall, of athletic build and had stubble on his face.

He wore a dark waist-length jacket with a black shirt underneath.

Officers are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incident, or saw two men acting suspiciously in the area at this time of the attack at 11pm on Tuesday.

PC Graham Wilkins said: “We are interested to hear from any members of the public who might have seen what happened that night, or who saw people hanging around the area at this time.

“Officers would particularly like to trace a woman who offered ice to the victim following the incident.”

Witnesses should contact PC Wilkins on 101, quoting 44160366202, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
